Maybe Crochet Doesn't Need to Be Complicated

I've been thinking a lot about crochet lately, not necessarily about what I want to make next, but about how I want to enjoy it.

I actually rediscovered my love of crochet through a simple granny square. There's something wonderfully satisfying about making that little square, watching it grow, and realizing just how many things you can create with a basic pattern. It was the perfect way to jump-start my interest again.

And it reminded me of something: I really do enjoy keeping crochet simple.

Give me some bulky yarn, a comfy crochet hook, and a simple pattern, and I'm happy. I've discovered that I really love making blankets and throws knowing that I don't have to spend my time counting stitches or learning a dozen different techniques.

Let's just say I collected quite a few complicated patterns, yarn, and hooks before figuring out what I really enjoy! Crochet patterns seem to have become increasingly complicated. There are so many beautiful stitches and techniques, and I admire the people who create them. But sometimes I just want something simple, something I can work on while watching television, chatting with family, or enjoying a quiet afternoon. Just give me a chain, single crochet, or double crochet, and I'm good to go!

I've started thinking about sharing more of my simple crochet projects here on the blog: think easy granny squares, cozy blankets, and other projects using bulky yarn, larger hooks for my older fingers, and just a handful of basic stitches.

I'd love to share the projects I'm making, the yarn I'm using, the hook sizes, and what I've learned along the way. I might even write up a few genuinely simple patterns for anyone who wants to make one, too.

I'm not looking to turn crochet into another job or create something that requires a schedule or membership. I think I'd rather keep things simple, share what I'm making, and let others join in if they're interested.

After all, hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable.

Maybe there's room for a little corner of the internet where crochet doesn't have to be complicated.

Simple granny squares. Big yarn. Big hooks. Basic stitches. Cozy creations.
